Woke up a 6:30am today to venture out to Berkeley for brunch. Well, actually, to visit my sister since she was there for a conference, but brunch was important too. I haven’t been to Berkeley in ages! I’ve heard so many good things about the food there so it looks like I’ll have to go more often. Brunch today was at a place called Venus Cafe.
So we got there around 8:45am, and there was surprisingly no line!! When we left at like 9:30, though, the crowd was starting to arrive. This place seems pretty popular on Yelp, so I recommend coming here early if you decide to try it out. The brunch menu here was simple, which I appreciated. I went with the Black Forest Ham Scramble (you can also get it in omelette form). It comes with potatoes and your choice of either a biscuit, muffin, or corn tortillas (and maybe some other options that I forgot…).
Service here was on the slow side. But the food here sure was tasty!! The ratio of actual ingredients to eggs in my scramble was perfect, and it was delicious! The biscuit was heaven, omg. The texture of the crust was just right, and the inside was super soft and moist and went amazingly with the jam. The rest of my family all enjoyed the food that they ordered. My sister actually got the Harajuku scramble (vegan) and she said it was very good! Portion sizes were decent, and prices here are pretty reasonable. I think my scramble was around $12 or $13.
All in all, Venus Cafe is a solid place for brunch! Just make sure to get here early to avoid the line 🙂 But if there is a line, you have many other options on the same street!
