Happy Tuesday (or April Fools Day, I should say)! Today I wanted to share one of my favorite trips to China from a couple of years ago. Yes, all of my trips happened before I went to college, so these posts aren’t recent, but I don’t think a blog post has to be recent in order for it to leave some impression on its readers. So, that being said, today’s journey back in time goes through a very interesting food market in the Qing Dao province.
I’ve always had an extremely sensitive stomach. As much as I love going back to China, I know that I’m fated to get food poisoning at some point during every trip. But for me, one day of suffering is worth the amazing food that I can’t get when I’m here in the states. But even I’m not brave enough to try the street food in China. Street food there will probably put me out for at least a week. The people there are used to it, but as a foreigner coming from the U.S., I could only take pictures of the delicious looking food throughout the market. I’m wise enough to know that seafood sold on the streets in China and my sensitive stomach would make a horrible combination. So enjoy the pictures, and taste the food through your eyes!
I don’t think I’ve ever tried starfish. I can only wonder how they would taste.
I have no idea what those bright orange things are. They look like a prettier and more bloated version of the crabs at the bottom!
Now these look rather interesting…
All the food looks so delicious. I only wish my stomach could have handled them. That being said, there were some other more questionable food items being sold at the market–things that I would probably never in my life have the courage to try. Maggots, crickets, lizards, and scorpions, just to name a few. I took pictures of all of them, but looking back, the pictures look a little revolting (especially the maggots!) so I thought I would spare all of new from the unsightly species they turned into food. But I hope you all enjoyed this post!
Have any of you been to China? I’d love to hear about your guys’ experiences as well, so feel free to leave a comment below! 🙂
I think the weirdest thing I tried when I was in China was black water beetles. I don’t know where I got the courage to eat it, but I did. It was at a restaurant though, there’s no way I’d try street food like that either!
Oh man haha was it good? And yeah same only in restaurants am I able to muster up the courage to try some really weird food! 🙂
Surprisingly juicy, but not much other than that. I even remember I had to peel apart the exoskeleton. Food in China has some really crazy things that I’ve never seen anywhere else!
So true!
