Now who doesn’t love a good face mask? I’ve found myself alternating regularly between four, so I thought I would share my thoughts on each one. Each mask falls into one of two categories: leave-on (sleep with it on and wash it off the next morning), or wash-off (right away). I didn’t include any sheet masks because I’m personally not a fan of them. I’ll use them occasionally when I feel like I have a bit more time to spare, but for me (maybe because my head is weirdly shaped), sheet masks don’t stay on my face very well. So once I put that sheet mask on, I pretty much have to lie flat and stay still. And for that reason I find them a bit troublesome to use. The masks I included today take very little time out of your normal routine, so let’s begin!
From left to right: Elizavecca Collagen Jella Pack, Skinfood Black Sugar Mask, Elizavecca Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask, and Laneige Water Sleeping Mask
Ok, so… I was looking at the picture above while writing this post, and I just noticed that all these masks are made by Korean skincare companies. Didn’t plan for it to be like that, but hey, I guess I naturally gravitate towards Korean products. Their packaging is very cute, though, I’ll admit that. Now let’s get on with the review.
1. Elizavecca Collagen Jella Pack (~$12)
This mask is one that you can either sleep with on, or wash off after 15-20 min. I’m pretty lazy so I prefer to just leave it on during the night and wash it off the next morning. This product comes with its own little spatula so you don’t have to worry about getting germs from your fingers into the mask itself. A little also goes a long way. I find that I need only about a pea-sized amount to cover my whole face.
This mask goes on very smooth, and gets absorbed by the skin very well. Your skin will feel instantly hydrated! This mask claims to moisturize, brighten, tighten pores, and replenish and firm the skin. Besides tightening the pores, I do think the mask does a good job of doing everything else. When I wake up in the morning, my skin is noticeably more supple and feels significantly more hydrated. I use this mask about once a week or so.
2. Skinfood Black Sugar Mask ($10-$22)
This is Skinfood’s best selling product, and I can see why! This mask takes the least amount of time to use out of the four. It’s essentially an exfoliating face wash, and they recommend that you use it no more than 3 times a week. Be careful if you have dry skin though, this is a pretty grainy feeling mask and your skin might feel irritated after scrubbing this over your face. Otherwise, it’s a great product. This mask leaves your skin feeling squeaky clean and also noticeably brighter. And it smells SO GOOD. A little goes a long way, and this product will last you for a while no matter what size you get.
3. Elizavecca Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask (~$15)
This mask takes the most time out of the four, and even then it’s only maybe 5 minutes tops. It can get quite messy though, especially when you’re just getting used to it. But it’s very unique and effective, and that’s why it’s one of my favorites.
This product applies almost like a shaving cream, and I say shaving cream because it foams up as you scrub it over your face. Once you’ve covered your face, let it sit there for 2-3 minutes or so. The mask will start bubbling and you can almost feel it sucking all the dirt and gunk out of your pores. There is a slight stinging sensation but after using it a couple of times, your skin will get used to it. I find that this mask sucks out all the blackheads (especially around the nose area) to the surface of the skin, so I just carefully extract them after I wash off the mask. Your skin will be left glowing with noticeably smaller pores. I use this 2-3 times a week.
4. Laneige Water Sleeping Mask (~$23)
I use this mask the most, hands down. If I’m not using the Elizavecca collagen mask, I’m using this one. This sleeping mask has pretty much become my night time moisturizer. It smells amazing (apparently the fragrance is sleep-inducing) and it goes on so smooth and easily. There’s a cooling sensation when you put it on that I absolutely love. It instantly hydrates your skin and it gets absorbed very fast. This is the priciest one out of the four, but I definitely think it’s worth it. Your skin will look super dewey in the morning and feel so refreshed.
