Happy Monday, everyone! I’m sure most of you have noticed that my blog looks a little different now. I spent the weekend porting everything over to a self-hosted domain (still using the WordPress platform, though) and setting up a brand new layout! Lots of work, but I think it will pay off in the long run. Let me know what you guys think! Anyway, with a brand new look, I decided to also start a brand new blog series: Dream Destinations. I love looking up places to add to my bucket list almost as much as I like traveling to visit them! Well, not really, but finding places to go is a HUGE source of inspiration for me. When I have nothing to do at home, I love reading travel articles, National Geographic, etc. Anything with pictures or videos to make it feel like I’m actually there. So I hope that with this series, I’ll be able to share some of that inspiration with you guys! And first up on the list is The Sea of Stars.
I only recently heard about The Sea of Stars. Located on Vaadhooo Island in the Maldives, it’s a phenomena that occurs due to the bioluminescence that the phytoplankton there exhibit. The result is quite incredible.
It looks so unreal! The details of the chemical reaction behind bioluminescence is quite complicated, I’m sure. From what I read, the basic gist of it is that as these organisms float in the water, the water movement sends electrical pulses through the organisms that cause proteins to flow. And I guess this flow starts a series of chemical reactions that eventually produce a protein called luciferase, which produces a neon blue light when combined with oxygen. Pretty cool!
Although the Maldives is the most publicized destination to observe this phenomena, it’s not the only place it occurs. These bioluminescent creatures are found all over the world, and here are some other pictures of that beautiful neon blue glow.
Hope you guys enjoyed the first post of this series! I’m excited to shareΒ other dream destinations on my bucket list with you, so stay tuned for more. Thanks for reading! π
You should share more about the process of self-hosting. I’ve been thinking about it and am nervous about losing the ease of adding new posts and losing my “likes” and followers. Would love to hear more!
Hi Lindsay! Yes, I’m thinking about doing a post soon. I’m hosting through Bluehost but still using the WordPress platform so the posting functionality and what not is still the same. Your likes won’t carry over to your new site, but all of your followers can easily be transferred! Let me know if you have any specific questions π
I want to go to all of these places too! π
Yay!! What other places are on your list? π
Wow, I’m in love!
π Same! I was in awe haha!
Oh my gosh, why have I never heard of this beautiful place? Now I want to go!
I only recently heard about this place myself. I just hope the real thing is as amazing as the pictures make it out to be π
Perfection as always!!! The brand new layout is beautiful and so clean! Maldives is also a place I’d love to visit as well!!! Though, didn’t knew about how the neon blue light forms! Thanks for sharing!
