I stayed at the Jewel Dunn’s River Resort while I was in Jamaica, and this resort is gorgeous!! I have mixed feelings about the experience, though. I’ve never been a fan of the all-inclusive resort scene. To me, it’s like being on a cruise ship, but on land. After 3-4 days, the activities get old, and you feel like you’re wasting away as you make your way to the buffet every 2 hours or so. I swear I had like 5-6 meals a day. And unlike the cruise ship experience, you don’t stop at a different location every day or two. I took 2 day trips during my stay here, and I think my ideal length of stay would have been 4 nights, 5 days. I stayed 6 nights, 7 days, and the 5 days on the resort got a little boring at the end, to be honest. The activities here aren’t very well planned. You get an activity sheet every night listing out what’s been planned for the next day, but certain activities like beach volleyball and power walking never happened. We showed up to an empty court, with no staff member there to host the activity. Kind of a bummer. Anyway, the resort itself is still beautiful, and I hope you enjoy some of the pictures I took while I was there!
Our room had a very rustic vibe. The stone floors threw me off a bit when I first walked in, but after a couple of days, I saw that it made cleaning much more practical, especially with all the sand that we bring in from the beach. We had a lovely view from the balcony, although we never made it out early enough to see the sunrise, which happens at around 5am. I’m so thankful we only got one FULL rainy day while we were there. Usually, it only rained for short periods at a time, so it didn’t get in the way of any of our day trip activities.
The gym was outdoors as well! Which was good and bad. You had a nice view, but there was no way of working out if it was raining. And the humidity definitely didn’t help either. The treadmills, unfortunately, were broken while we were there, but they have a lot of weight machines for those of you who prefer lifting instead.
The beach by the resort was really nice. The water isn’t very cold and a lot of people go swimming in the ocean. Just make sure you stay in the swimming “boundaries”. Otherwise, jellyfish await! Both of my parents actually got stung on the first day. It wasn’t anything serious, though, and the swelling went away within a few hours. The bartenders here are also fantastic–and super friendly! They have a new special every day. I think my favorite drink was the Bob Marley.
The beach looked even better as the sun was setting! The sky turns a lovely pink/purple, and it’s so nice that the temperature pretty much stays the same.
Hope you all enjoyed this post! Can’t say for sure that I’ll be back, but if I do visit again, it’ll definitely be for a shorter period of time. In the meantime, I’ll be trying to work off all the weight that I gained from the delicious food there. The buffet food was good at times, but their Italian and Caribbean restaurants were my personal favorites. Will be doing a post on the Caribbean restaurant soon! Thanks for reading π
