First Foodie Friday of 2016! Haven’t done one of these in a while…there was just so much I wanted to share from my Jamaica trip. But now that my Jamaica content is dwindling down, I thought I would spread what I have left out a little more. So today, I wanted to share my dining experience at Monsieur Benjamin from a while back. Monsieur Benjamin is a French restaurant in San Francisco (451 Gough Street). As indicated by the $$$ on Yelp, it is a relatively expensive place to dine. Overall, I thought the food was GORGEOUS, pretty tasty, but not worth the price tag.
When you first walk in, you’re greeted by the beautiful interior decor of the restaurant–very modern, minimalistic, and open. You get a wonderful view of the open kitchen. The seating area is well spread out and we were lucky enough to snag a window booth.
There was a lot to choose from the menu, but a few things caught our eye. Between the two of us, we decided to share an order of fried frog legs and escargots. For my main dish, I ordered the sea bass. The fried frog legs were alright….I didn’t like how little meat there was, haha. As for the escargots, this was my first time trying them, and I wasn’t a fan. They taste strangely…grassy. Flavor is light but strange. And they’re very chewy….as you would expect. The sea bass was the best part of the meal for me. It was beautifully presented and so tender! The sauce and seasoning added a great touch of additional flavor, and the serving sizes were just right.
Doesn’t the frog leg arrangement look like a hand? Once my bf told me that, I couldn’t un-see it, haha. Overall, I thought the dining experience was great, but the food wasn’t as great. The waiters here are very friendly and attentive, and food comes out relatively fast. I wasn’t a fan of the frog legs or the escargots, but that’s probably just personal bias. The sea bass was good, though! But because of the high price tag, this isn’t a place I would frequent. But I would if I could. This place has a great vibe, and I would love to try some of the other dishes on their menu.
XOXO,
The interior of the restaurant looks great Ashley, your photos are high quality. Being a vegetarian I certainly would not have tried the frogs legs…but doesn’t sound like they are delicious anyway.
Thanks Sue! Haha you definitely didn’t miss out on much 🙂
