It’s that time of year again! Going back to school is always such a struggle…the packing, the moving, the general thought of having classes again. BUT, I remember the one thing that I did look forward to around this time was back to school shopping! For me, I wasn’t all that into shopping for school supplies (pencils, notebooks, etc.). Actually, I take that back. Every year, I always obsess over which planner I’m going to get. Yes, even though I studied computer science as an undergrad, I’m still pretty old-school in certain ways. I hate using virtual calendars…I don’t know why. I just prefer writing things down. And there’s something about being able to cross things off that makes finishing a task much more satisfying. Who’s with me? Anyway, besides the planner, what I get most excited about is shopping for room décor!
I can literally spend hours looking through interior design catalogs. I’m sure most people can, actually. Because most of us can’t afford the time (or the money) to really go all out in terms of decorating our homes. So for me, my small room that I called home during the school year was the one place I could really bring out (or try to, I should say) my inner designer. Dorm rooms, especially, are usually small enough so that you can’t get too carried away with furniture and what not. So you can focus strictly on décor. Wall hangings, fun rugs, cute organizers, etc. So here are a few things that I’m currently obsessed with:
1. Creative Jewelry Storage: This ring holder by Betsey Johnson is just the cutest thing! I found it at Bed Bath and Beyond, and I love the chic attitude it brings. The white/gold colors make it pretty easy to match. It’s just something unique 🙂 I always have trouble finding places to store my rings…I never keep the original boxes and if I just leave them on my desk I always end up losing one every now and then. So this is a great solution.
2. Rugs: This white FAUX fur rug really brightens up a room. It looks great at the edge of the bed, under a chair, or just laid out somewhere in general. It’s super soft and quite comfy to sit on! Meditation spot, anyone? 🙂 Love this piece, and these rugs aren’t too pricey either.
3. Notebooks: This isn’t really a recent obsession…but notebooks are a must for me! Not just for taking notes in class, but also for jotting down random ideas that come throughout the day or for keeping track of due dates and assignments. I love Moleskin notebooks–they have such a sleek and classic look. Which makes me even more motivated to write in them!
Other necessities include my camera, pens/pencils, sunglasses, and magazines. But those are more like everyday necessities and don’t apply as much to back to school season 🙂 If you guys have any favorite room decor/storage products, I’d love to hear about them!
*** FTC Disclaimer: I am working with Bed Bath & Beyond on a campaign featuring items from their college section. But all opinions above are my own.
XOXO,
Hey Ashley, me too! I dun like the virtual calendar, something about writing it down on the actually schedule book gets me (whether it motivates me to actually finish it is not within our discussion tho ahahh)
