I tried too hard with the title, I know. The things you do when you have too much time…So a month ago, I randomly decided to take a day trip to San Luis Obispo. Mind you, it’s about a 4 hour drive each way. And since I also wanted to visit Hearst Castle, which is an hour in another direction, I really didn’t have all that much time to spend in SLO. I wouldn’t recommend a day trip unless you live relatively close. Driving is quite draining. And it’s so hard to choose what to do when you only have like 4 hours to spend there. But this is what I ended up doing.
Avila Valley Barn: This was the first stop! And also probably where we spent most of our time. This is such a cute farm. They sell EVERYTHING, I kid you not. Food-related, that is. Everything is super fresh. They’ve got fruits, vegetables, honey, baked goods, honey STICKS, cookie/cake mixes, sauces, pickles, you name it. There’s also a super cute ice cream shop that’s just around the corner of their main shop. The location is gorgeous! I loved walking around the farm. The goats are adorable 🙂 Anyway, the stuff here isn’t cheap, but I went back with some strawberry/raspberry jam and some honey. Both were delicious!! I’ve heard great things about their baked goods as well…I’ll save that for next time…when I visit over a weekend, not a day trip.
Brunch @ Bon Temps Creole Cafe: Just talked about this place in my September Foodgrams post, so I won’t repeat myself, but this is a great brunch place! I recommend coming a bit later around 11am so you can sample some of their lunch dishes as well. I missed out on that 🙁 But the location here is great, service is great, and you’ve got a pretty great selection of hot sauces. And remember to try their unique pancakes! They’re not fluffy, but the texture is great and the flavor is fantastic.
Bubblegum Alley: Aite, I know this place is pretty gross, but I thought it was super artsy ok…don’t judge. Clearly not many other people do though cause this place was empty when I went LOL, but that might’ve also been because it was a weekday. And sadly enough…this was the conclusion of my SLO trip.
We headed up to Hearst Castle afterwards–that post is coming up soon! I was so sad I didn’t get to explore the coastal part of SLO, though. Sigh…never going to attempt a day trip here again. Day trips are already so rushed, and I feel like a 1-2 hour drive each way is the limit. Past that, you really don’t get to spend that much time exploring the place you’re visiting. Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed this post nonetheless! Not your typical SLO destinations, but maybe ya’ll will add these to your list 🙂
