Subscription boxes are sort of hit or miss for me. I started off with Birchbox way back when. Stuck with it for a couple months and then realized that I really didn’t use any of the products after that initial sampling during unboxing. It definitely seems like a good value, though. But for me at least, I don’t go through products that fast. And after the samples start piling up, it really seems like a waste. Anyway, that’s for makeup. When it comes to food, it’s a different story. I feel like I go through products TOO fast. The May Snakku box that I’ll be reviewing today was actually my first ever food subscription box. Well, I take that back. First snack box. I’ve tried Bon Appetit Box before (it’s amazing, highly recommend), but until Snakku, snack subscription boxes were still a mystery. It’s easy to see the appeal, though.
Growing up as a kid, Japanese snacks were always my weakness. They really know how to suck you in with the packaging. I wouldn’t be surprised if they managed to make asparagus look appealing (I hate asparagus, lol). This Snakku box was no exception. Size-wise, it was quite big! Filled with delicious goodies, but we’ll get to that later. The box, the snacks themselves, even the decorative tissue paper used to stuff the box were all so pretty! They made unboxing quite the experience, and I really appreciate the effort that went into the design.
As for the snack themselves, there’s a pretty good variety—very well put-together in terms of flavors and textures. The box also comes with an info card filled with more detailed descriptions about each of the snacks. Altogether, there were about 10 different snacks to sample. It’s nice of them to include more than one serving of most snacks. So you can do your initial round of sampling and find out which ones you like most. Then for those, you’ll still have 2-3 servings to enjoy 🙂 My favorites in this month’s box were the Touyouka Manju (pastry-like snack with red bean filling) and the Lemon Chocolate Cookie. But all of them were delicious!
Hope you guys give Snakku a try! Have you guys tried any other snack boxes that you would recommend?
